Ingredients

  • Red gram dal60 g · 4 tbsp
  • Black gram dal2.5 g · 1 tsp
  • Mustard seeds2 g · 1 tsp
  • Green chillies5 g · 1 tsp
  • Curry leaves2 g · 1/2 tsp
  • Coriander leaves5 g · 1 tsp
  • Groundnut oil5 g · 1 tsp
  • Cho cho marrow (chayote)100 g · 1/2 cup cubes

Method

  1. 1Pressure cook the dal.
  2. 2Heat oil in pan. Temper with mustard and urad dal. When mustard splutters, add curry leaves and green chillies and stir.
  3. 3Add cut vegetables. Stir fry for a while. Add a little water and cook till soft.
  4. 4Add the dal and salt. Garnish with coriander leaves.
  5. 5Can be had with roti or rice.

Notes from the contributor

  • Cho cho can be substituted with other low-potassium squashes like ridge gourd, bottle gourd, snake gourd.
  • All dals are high in potassium but they form an essential part of Indian diet.
  • Leaching is generally not advised; may be required in exceptional cases.
