Ingredients

  • Lauki / Dudhi (bottle gourd, chopped)400 g · 2 medium cups
  • Cumin seeds5 g · 1 tsp
  • Curry leaves3 g · 8-10 leaves
  • Oil15 g · 1 tbsp
  • Asafoetida0.5 g · pinch
  • Sugar (optional)5 g · 1 tsp
  • Ginger paste2.5 g · 1/2 tsp
  • Cumin seed powder2.5 g · 1/2 tsp
  • Finely chopped coriander5 g · as garnish

Method

  1. 1Heat oil in a pressure cooker. Temper with cumin seeds, asafoetida and curry leaves.
  2. 2Add the bottle gourd, salt, sugar and ginger paste. Stir well and add a medium cup of water. Pressure cook till 1 whistle.
  3. 3Allow steam to escape and add cumin seed powder and chopped coriander. Cook 2-3 minutes on medium flame stirring occasionally till water dries.
  4. 4Serve hot with rice or chapati.
