Phodnicha Bhat (Rice with Tempering)

Ingredients

  • Cooked rice60 g · 1/2 cup
  • Onion (chopped)50 g · 1/2 onion
  • Red chilli powder (or 1 chopped green chilli)1 g · 1/2 tsp
  • Mustard and cumin seeds1 g · 1/2 tsp
  • Asafoetida0.5 g · a pinch
  • Turmeric0.5 g · a pinch
  • Oil10 g · 2 tsp

Method

  1. 1Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds and allow to splutter.
  2. 2Add asafoetida, turmeric and onions. When onions are translucent, add rice and remaining spices.
  3. 3Cook on low flame for 2-3 minutes.
  4. 4Serve hot with a cucumber or onion raita.
